Welcome back!

It’s not difficult to find some of the crazy ads that have made it on to digg over the last year or so. Heck, just check out Flickr and Google Images and you’ll find plenty! According to the Silicon Alley Insider, Digg’s ads are getting more and more targeted, which is about time seeing as though it’s almost been a couple of years since Kevin said himself on Digg’s blog:
“…there won’t be anymore ‘dancing monkeys ads’ and the design will remain uncluttered.”
6 months later he went on to say:
“we’re fixing the annoying ads”
Which, if you remember, had a lot to do with those ANNOYING auto-playing audio ads!
You know…he’s right, I don’t believe I’ve seen any “dancing monkeys”, but I’ve seen some pretty disturbing and continually irrelevant ads still being popping up. The reason I decided to write this post was because of a new ad that I saw today for the first time (it had been a while since I’d seen anything tasteless). It was for a Forex Trading program, but if you look at where the wording is in the ad, you’ll see their main focus:
Version 1 (also, someone posted some funny notes on this one here)
Version 2
With that being said, here are some other types of annoying ads that you’ll find since the “we’re fixing the annoying ads” announcement (click on any of the images for a larger view):
1. The Flashes-So-Much-I’ll-Get-An-Aneurysm Ad
The joke is that this kind of ad actually is being promoted on Digg!
2. The Rollover-Your-Whole-Screen Ad
Ok, maybe not the whole screen (for those of you who don’t understand sarcasm – this might help), but it did take up the majority of the page which you were trying to look at.

3. The Utterly-Disgusting Ad
The acne one isn’t SO bad, but really…does a woman with 900 year-old skin expect to gain much (especially THESE results) out of an anti-wrinkle cream?!

4. The Kick-You-While-You’re-Down Ad
Contextual advertising at its finest!
5. The I-Belong-On-A-Porn-or-Torrent-Downloading-Site Ad
Now, I don’t go porn or torrent downloading sites, but this is the type of advertising I would expect to see there, but not Digg.
6. The Sucks-For-The-Advertiser Ad
Mickey-D’s…you just got served, biatch!
7. The Get-Your-Drug-Fix-on-eBay Ad
Cause it’s hard enough not getting caught on the streets! Wonder what that seller’s feedback rating is…
8. The I-EET-UR-PUTER-CPU Ad
I feel I’ve reached a whole new low by referencing an LOLCatz-type title.
